Back In Black Named as Most Influential Australian Album

Gentleman's Quarterly Magazine of Australia has named AC/DC's Back In Black as their number one pick on their list of the Top 50 Most Influential Australian Albums.

Back In Black, which propelled AC/DC to international stardom shortly after the tragic death of Bon Scott, has sold over 42 million copies worldwide.

Strangely, no other AC/DC album made the GQ Top 50. For the full story and complete Top 50 list, click here and here. Below, you'll see their Top 10.

1. ACDC - Back in Black
2. The Bee Gees - Saturday Night Fever
3. Saints - I'm Stranded

4. The Birthday Party - Junkyard

5. Easybeats - Absolute Anthology

6. The Avalanches - Since I Left You

7. Cold Chisel - East

8. Scientists - Blood Red River

9. Crowded House - Crowded House

10. Silverchair - Young Modern

GQ's 2008 Music Issue hits news-stands on Wednesday for those about to add it to their AC/DC related magazine collection.

That's odd.. I'd expect a Bon Scot era album in there...

I'm curious as to which 49 albums were more influential than Highway to Hell.

I agree, very odd! The Bon era created its own genre of rock, for Heaven's sakes.

To the webmaster:

Yesterday (September 28th), The Simpsons' 20th season premiere featured an AC/DC parody. Homer and Flanders were trying to connect in the car, and Homer asked if they should listen to some music. Flanders responded with disbelief that Homer and himself shared the same musical likings and Homer responded with this.

Homer: Well, I like AC/DC!
Flanders: And I like their Christian cover band, AD/BC! Kindly deeds, done for free! Kindly deeds, done for free! Kindly deeds, done for free!

Homer and Flanders: Kindly deeds and they're done for free! Kindly deeds and they're done for free!

Also, the New York Times has seemed to confirm that an AC/DC "Rock Band" expansion pack will be on the way coinciding with the Black Ice release.

oh.. i just realized this piece of news popped up on my b-day..

yay!

although TNT was the first song I ever heard, BnB was the first AC/DC album I listened to

the irony is that BnB wasn't recorded on Ausstralian ground, as a matter of fact I think it was the first to be recorded outside it

all the Bon Scot era albums are, while few (none?) of Brian era.. or am I wrong?

tudor, I think Highway to Hell was the only Bon era album not recorded in Australia; it was done in London I believe?

Marble and Tudor:

Everything post-Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap was recorded outside of Australia.
