AC/DC: Veterans of Rock 'n' Roll

It's Veteran's Day here in the States and what better time to salute the best band in the world over the last 35 years with another edition of AC/DC News.

For starters, AC/DC was awesome in Toronto last week according to the PaulyBlog. Another fan, at The Giant Panther, also shared his thoughts on the recent AC/DC concert in Boston last week.

Great photos from a couple of AC/DC's recent shows can be found here, here and here. Don't ask me which shows they're from because I've already forgotten...

Yet another Black Ice CD review can be found at the Chattanooga Times Free Press. (Apparently, people in Tennessee are so slow that they need to be reminded of a reason to go to Wal-Mart.)

Finally, if you haven't heard the word yet, AC/DC's record company reps are claiming that the band is the biggest selling artist in the world for 2008. Bravewords has the story or you can just take Sony/Columbia's word for it like I have.

More news when it happens...

Keep rockin, Jon

[Press release - Christine Grahame MSP]
Attn news desks/music corrs - 19th December 2008

AC/DC, We salute you, says Scots Parliament

They have become a musical rock legend with distinctive Scottish origins and have sold 150 million records worldwide, but now AC/DC have been officially recognised in the land that gave birth to guitar brothers Angus and Malcolm Young and late front man Bon Scott.

Member of the Scottish Parliament Christine Grahame has lodged a parliamentary motion that officially recognises the contribution the band has made to music, 35 years after the band were formed and ahead of their long awaited performance in Scotland’s year of homecoming at the National Stadium at Hampden Park, Glasgow. Ms Grahame said:

"The Young brothers emigrated to Australia with their family in the 1960s, as many Scots did, and went onto establish what has become the definitive rock band of all time.

"It is worth noting that they made an effort to hold onto their Scottish origins and that is reflected in a couple of their tracks."
Former lead singer Bon Scott, another Scottish ex-pat from Kirriemuir who also emigrated to Australia joined AC/DC in 1974." Ms Grahame added: "It is clear Scott had strong sense of his identity, from the "Scotland forever" tattoo he had on his arm to his playing the bagpipes on the AC/DC track ‘It’s a long way to the top".

“The band also recorded a version of the traditional Scottish folk song, Loch Lomand.

"When they played Glasgow in 1978 the whole band wore the Scotland national football strip as their concert took place just ahead of the World Cup finals and it would be fitting if they were to do the same when the band play Hampden national football stadium next June.
"I have suggested to the Scottish Football Association that they might want to provide Scotland tops for the band which could possibly be auctioned later with the funds going towards the Children’s Hospice Association.

"After 35 years AC/DC are still contributing to music and giving fans enjoyment worldwide. I think they have long deserved official recognition from their homeland for that major musical contribution and my parliamentary motion will go some way towards recognising that."

The Scottish Parliamentary motion lodged today (Friday) states:

AC/DC, We Salute you.
That this parliament recognises the significant musical contribution of the rock band AC/DC, whose founding members Angus and Malcolm Young moved from Scotland to Australia, joined with Bon Scott, another Scottish émigré to create what has become a musical legend with the band selling an estimated 150 million albums worldwide and establishing themselves as the best selling rock band of all time; notes that the popularity of AC/DC continues to grow and welcomes their forthcoming performance at Scotland’s National Football Stadium on June 30th; and finally acknowledges the musical inspiration the band has provided to thousands of Scottish musicians who have themselves gone on to great international success.

Current lead singer Brian Johnson was yesterday honoured by a children's hospital in Florida for his charity work when they named a therapy room after him. Sarasota Memorial Hospital is in Johnson's adoptive home town in the US.

That'd be awesome if AC/DC won the Grammy. I get so tired of the same talentless crap winning every year.

I miss ya bud,......
I know you were sick, and I fear you may have passed on to the great beyond.
That's the evil of the inter-net, we're all just anonymous text-ers who mostly give the inter-net only a second thought.
