Black Ice Sells 5 Million Copies Worldwide
It appears AC/DC's Black Ice is off to an amazing start in global sales according to this report in The Times Online. In fact, they go on to say that Black Ice could already be the number one album in 19 countries!
The big question in my mind is will Black Ice debut at #1 in the U.S. charts? If it does, that will be another phenomenal achievement for AC/DC after 35 years of rocking and rolling.
By the way, for more info on AccaDacca's latest sales success, you should checkout AC/DC rocking the charts the old fashioned way by The Times Now.
Speaking of milestones, Arnaud Durieux of Electric Shock is estimating that AC/DC will play it's 2000th concert on December 2oth in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Incredibly, that's more concerts than even the Rolling Stones (AC/DC's idols) have played in their 46 year career.
In other news, several more favorable reviews of Black Ice have appeared in the last day or so that may make for an interesting read for you. Among the better ones are Still Young at heart from the Herald Sun and There's life in the old uniform yet by The Australian.
For completists, The Belleville Intelligencer feels AC/DC is in fine form with Black Ice and the St. Catherines Standard says the boys have 'shaken off the mothballs' to make their best record in two decades.
One interview we missed earlier in the week was Zane Lowe talking with Angus and Brian recently on BBC1. I highly recommend you give it a listen because, for once, the disc jockey doesn't try to make himself the star of the chat and he actually asks some intelligent questions of the guys. Just a note, the interview starts at approximately the 1 hour and 7 minute mark into the 2-hour broadcast and you must have Real Player installed to hear it.
Lastly, since many of you enjoyed the last AC/DC top 10 list I posted, you might like reading the Essential AC/DC Tracks as compiled by the Arizona Republic. However, I must say I strongly disagree with their opinion that AC/DC hasn't recorded any essential tracks since 1981!

Never before seen picture of Bon carrying Angus!
Here it is, as promised last week! This shot was taken as Bon Scott carried Angus Young through the crowd at the Winnipeg Arena on July 30, 1978 during AC/DC's Powerage tour. Man, how great would it have been to be that close to these two legends of rock?

The Schoolboy Is Back!
After a very brief hiatus, AC/DC News is back with tons of interesting tidbits to share with all you AccaDacca fans out there.
As we told you last week, Q Magazine has devoted their upcoming cover to AC/DC's Angus Young. Not only that, but they've got much more in store for fans of the schoolboy including this mini-site devoted to our favorite duck-walking lad. Their site's well worth your free time as they offer up a gallery of new Angus pics (in uniform) plus a classic interview with the band, among other treats.
In other big news, it seems smaller music retailers have decided to take the fight to Wal-Mart over the mega-chain's exclusive deal to sell AC/DC's new album in the USA. Our friend, Paul Cashmere, has the full story at Undercover News and I must say it's refreshing to know that AC/DC's brand new album, Black Ice, will be on sale in N. America for lower than Wal-Mart's asking price of $11.88.
With all the AC/DC Rock Band 2 hype lately it's pretty interesting to read what the online game mags and forums have to say about the Live At Donington expansion pack due out exclusively at Wal-Mart in November. One irate gamer in particular, named Jeremy, has spoken up about the shortcomings of the new game in his latest piece, AC/DC LIVE: Rock Band Track Pack is an Epic Fail. It's a classic read on how corporate greed can ruin a good thing from a band you love. More info on the game can be found Joystiq and GameCyte, if you need it.
By the way, for those interested in commentary about AC/DC's battle royale with iTunes, you might want to take a close look at Taylor Trask's piece about it from Produce You. It seems the Telegraph might not have had all their facts straight in last week's story....
Before we move on, let's take another look at AC/DC's latest tour dates, shall we? Reuters has them here in case you've missed anything.
It's really interesting that the band will be rocking hard late into December and throughout January as most veteran fans expected the boys to not resume touring until, at least, March or April of 2009 after the first round of tour dates were announced a few weeks ago. Let's hope the Winter in the USA will be a warmer place to be this year for our favorite lads, eh? Wouldn't want little Angus to freeze the family jewels off now would we?
Speaking of concerts, the Black Ice Tour is still dominating ticket news across the country as the hottest show around. Read more about it at Ticket News if you're interested.
With all the Black Ice related contests we've noted lately, it's not a surprise to see more pop up everyday. Here's two for a lucky few: If you live in the UK, you could possibly win a chance to hear AC/DC's Black Ice a week early from the ancient rockers at Kerrang Magazine. AC/DC Extend 'Black Ice World Tour' Into 2009
AC/DC extend their trek across North America by adding sixteen more shows to their Black Ice World Tour. Newly added dates begin on December 20, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and wrap up on January 31, 2009 in Nashville, TN. The tour kicks off on October 28, 2008 in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Click here to view the full itinerary.
Tickets for the Houston, Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa, and Cleveland concerts go on sale October 4 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets for the Toronto concert go on sale October 10 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets for the Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Omaha, Fargo, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Dallas, Tulsa, and Nashville concerts go on sale October 11 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets for the Little Rock and Memphis concerts go on sale October 18 at 10:00 a.m.

Rolling Stone Kissing AC/DC's Big Balls?
After years and years of loathing, it seems Rolling Stone Magazine is finally changing their tune about AC/DC's brand of rock 'n' roll music.Yes, once again, Rolling Stone has defied their history by gloriously featuring AC/DC in an another preview of Black Ice which was posted online earlier today.
By most fan accounts, that rag has virtually despised AC/DC their whole career (with the exception of Back In Black) but now they seem to want to help promote the new record by actually offering details of the Black Ice recording sessions while, at the same time, praising the new songs.
Of course, this praise is a far cry from what Rolling Stone has previously said about AC/DC's music. For example, back in the nineties, when they declared Brian Johnson's "banshee vocals are even more shrill these days." in their 2 stars out of 5 Ballbreaker review or the time they said AC/DC had set "a new record for the longest career without a single new idea" with the release of the Razors Edge album.
In fact, not once has AC/DC ever been on Rolling Stone's cover in the United States despite the fact that the band are Rock 'N Roll Hall of Famers and they sell more albums than anybody (except The Beatles) in today's market after 35 years in the music business.
I surmise that this seemingly new found respect for AC/DC has more to do with Columbia Records marketing machine than any true change of heart from Rolling Stone, but I guess time will tell as the band prepares to hit the road soon.
In other AC/DC news, it appears Rock Band 2 might feature some hidden AC/DC songs other than the previously announced, Let There Be Rock.
Apparently, if the above rumored screen shot is to be believed, Shoot To Thrill from Live At Donington will be in the mix, too. You'll find the story about it here and why wouldn't they want more AC/DC tracks in Rock Band? One song is certainly not going to be enough to satisfy the average rock fan!
Lastly, I could really care less about what's on TV these days but, it would be remiss of me not to mention that Rock N Roll Train is being used to help promote the season premier of the CBS show, Criminal Minds, called "NYC Under Attack." (see the video above)
Why they didn't use Safe In New York City instead is something I'll never understand. Oh well, score another big win for the Black Ice division of the record company marketing department.
In other minor news of note, Cinema Blend recently posted a review of No Bull - The Director's Cut and some obscure festival is desperately trying to get some headlines by announcing they want AC/DC to play there next year. But, of course, as has been well said before, AC/DC "doesn't want, or need, to share a stage with anyone."

Labor Day AC/DC News
Hi folks,
A lot of stuff on my plate (as usual) but here's a quick roundup of the AC/DC headlines on this Labor Day weekend here in the States.
For starters, what would Labor Day be without a look back into the history of the band's hardworking days with the late, great Bon Scott?
In Let There Be Rock, Marky Billson spins the tale of AC/DC's very first American concert in Austin, TX at the Armadillo World Headquarters club on July 27, 1977. Would you believe AC/DC could be booked for a mere $1000 per show back then?
Anyway, that is a DO NOT MISS item so here's the link again for you dullards and drunkards.
Next up, is Phil Cashmere's assertion that the next big announcement from AC/DC will be regarding the inevitable Black Ice tour. Will it be, as he says, in Wilkes Barre, Pa. in October or does the band actually have other plans? From what I hear, AC/DC might not tour until 2009! After all, there is much work to be done by the boys what with videos and all the other assorted promotional business that comes with releasing a new CD.
Speaking of the new album, Brave Words, has been hyping audio clips of Angus Young and Brian Johnson speaking about Black Ice but, personally, I've no clue what Angus is referring to in his 10 second soundbite. Both very brief clips can be heard from their site. Brian does say the Black Ice will be great, but don't most bands say that before every new album/CD?
For those who want to rock out to Black Ice with the blue AC/DC logo on the CD cover, you're in luck as the AC/DC store has announced that for a mere $14.99 you can purchase a "limited edition hardcover deluxe package" which "features a 30-page expanded booklet with exclusive new illustrations, studio and live photographs of AC/DC." For my money, this is the way to go so, I'll be purchasing direct from them here and I advise you to do the same because this item will be a keeper, I'm sure.
Lastly, over the past several days I've been told by many fans that they actually prefer the infamous Rock N Roll Train demo to the real song! Now I wouldn't go nearly that far but has AC/DC really been out-riffed by a fan? I shudder to think this could be true, but you can compare the two versions yourself below.

See AC/DC Rocking In The USA!
The UK arm of SonyBMG Music announced yesterday that they're giving away an 'amazing trip of a lifetime' to one lucky fan (and a friend) to see AC/DC perform a special dress rehearsal show in the USA. No exact word on when that will be but to enter the contest all you would have to do is:
a] Go to the Reading or Leeds festivals.
b] Find the poster of the Angus Young's head somewhere at the festival site
c] Pose beneath it in your coolest Angus Young/air guitar pose
Upload the picture to the bands UK page on the official site (being built now!). In any case more details coming soon so make sure you keep an eye out for more information...!
My guess is that this contest will only be open to UK residents that are 18 years or older but SonyBMG could always pull a surprise. - Jon

Latest AC/DC tidbits...
Sony BMG has sent out a second notice asking fans to enter the contest to appear in the next AC/DC video which will be filmed this Friday in London. Apparently, though, you may not wear a Wal-Mart Sucks T-shirt to the event so don't even try.
Sharon Osbourne (of Ozzy Osbourne fame) just said she'd like AC/DC to head the the line-up for next years Ozzfest. Of course, who can forget the infamous egg-throwing incident a couple of years back when she got mad at Iron Maiden. Boy, I'd sure like to see her and Malcolm have a go at each other but, as one wag on Blabbermouth said, "AC/DC might have to get permission from Wal-Mart" first.
In happier news, Paul Cashmere confirmed that "AC/DC will film the video for `Runaway Train`, the first single from the `Black Ice` album this Friday in London." There had been a lot of speculation as to the exact title of the new song but, hopefully, this will clear up the truth as Mr. Cashmere is not wrong very often.
Fans in Romania have launched an online petition to bring AC/DC to their fair country on the new tour. I can't read Romanian but I think it says something like 'Please come see us. We will grovel at your feet if you do." Anyway, they've got about 1800 signatures already so, let's hope for them that they get their wish.
Personally, I'm hoping AC/DC will play China because I've never been and I hear the whole smog problem is way overblown despite what our friends in Britain believe.

UK fans invited to be AC/DC's next video
AC/DC is inviting their biggest fans to compete for a chance to appear in their next video that will be filmed somewhere in Central London on August 15 from 3pm to Midnight.
Apparently, 150 lucky fans will be chosen from all the entrants who fill out this form which appears on Sony Record's AC/DC site. All you need do is give them a bit of your personal information and answer the question, "Why are you AC/DC's biggest fan?"
Please note, however, that according to the official rules "Entry is only open to residents of the United Kingdom over the age of 18. For the complete contest terms, read the legal lingo here.
